Mlada

Mlada is Ukrainian singer working in an ethno jazz style which can be characterized as an imaginative folklore. This style supposes the usage of not only folklore but also folklike art songs. Mlada’s art career started with a meeting of a well-known Ukrainian drummer Sergey Tabunshyk, now a composer and producer of the singer. Her album “Oy vesna, vesna …,” (Oh spring, spring…) which introduces an original vision of folklore, turned to be her visiting card.

“Ukrainian folk song and Mlada’s unique voice in combination with modern trends give an opportunity to create really exclusive product sounding new and original” – Sergey believes. Leaving unchanged beautiful original melodies, Mlada offers to view familiar folklore stories in other settings passing them through her lyric, womanly, sincere, romantic image.

Mlada’s creative work addresses those who deem tradition not as mummified cultural remnants but a living phenomenon which keeps developing, far from exhausting its potential.

“Taking up music for a long time, I was concerned in different styles, participated in festivals and various jazz projects, - tells Mlada, - but then a natural question was raised: why not creating something based on our Ukrainian folklore? For it is very deep, genuine, unique but the main thing it is the closest to our heart, this is our culture.”

What makes folklore wonderful is an examination with all possible tests. The combination of folklore with various musical modern styles is dangerous with a lot of surprises. Назад Музика першого альбому «Ой весна, весна…» попала в ротацію на радіо в Канаді, США, Бельгії, Голландії, Франції і була відмічена як перший, у своєму роді, серйозний український проект.

Чим дивує фольклор – так це перевіркою усіма мислимими випробуваннями. Симбіоз фольклору з різними музичними сучасними стилями, пропонує нам масу сюрпризів. Прорахувати завчасно всі його можливості - навряд чи можливо, але тим цікавіше долучитися до інтриги і зануритися у незвіданий світ цих дивних діалогів. І Млада дає нам таку можливість.
